Theme Tune

In the Air Tonight – Phil Collins

I can feel it coming in the air tonight, (Oh lord)
And I’ve been waiting for this moment, for all my life, (Oh lord)
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord, (Oh lord)

Well, if you told me you were drowning
I would not lend a hand
I’ve seen your face before my friend
But I don’t know if you know who I am

Well, I was there and I saw what you did
I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off that grin, I know where you’ve been
It’s all been a pack of lies.

And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, (Oh lord)
Well I’ve been waiting for this moment for all my life, (Oh lord)
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord
Well I’ve been waiting for this moment for all my life oh Lord, (Oh Lord)

Well I remember, I remember don’t worry
How could I ever forget
It’s the first time, the last time we ever met
But I know the reason why you keep this silence up

No you don’t fool me
The hurt doesn’t show, but the pain still grows
It’s no stranger to you and me

I can feel it coming in the air tonight, Oh lord
Well I’ve been waiting for this moment for all my life, (Oh lord)
I can feel it in the air tonight, oh lord, (Oh lord)
Well I’ve been waiting for this moment for all my life, Oh lord

I can feel it coming in the air tonight, Oh lord
And I’ve been waiting for this moment for all my life, Oh lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, oh lord, (Oh lord, Oh lord)
Well I’ve been waiting for this
Moment for all my life, oh lord, (Oh lord)
I can feel it in the air tonight, Oh Lord, oh Lord, oh Lord, oh Lord
Well I’ve been waiting for this moment all my life, oh Lord, Lord.

Ferrari Daytona Spider 365 GTS/4 and the 1986 Ferrari Testarossa replica stunt

During the first two seasons and two episodes from the third season, Detective Sonny Crockett drove a black 1972 Ferrari Daytona Spyder 365 GTS/4 replica with a Florida license plate ZAQ178.Ferrari North America had turned down the request by Miami Vice for authentic Ferraris (they did the same with Magnum P.I., forcing that production to purchase 308 GTSs).
Ferrari filed a lawsuit demanding McBurnie and four others to stop producing and selling Ferrari replicas.Miami Vice producers, on the other hand, wanted no legal troubles, and accepted Ferrari’s offer of two free 1986 Testarossas on the condition that the replicas be demolished.Carl Roberts offered to build two new Daytonas for the 1987 season (third season of Miami Vice). When Roberts learned that the Daytona was out, he proposed a trade. He would build Miami Vice a Testarossa stunt car in return for the doomed Daytona

Brenda: How do you go from this tranquility to that violence?
Sonny Crockett: I usually take the Ferrari

Trivia

Don Johnson was ready to leave the show at the end of its second season, and the studio lined up Mark Harmon to take over the role of Sonny Crockett. The only one not happy with this solution was executive producer Michael Mann, who convinced Johnson to stay on. As a result, Johnson became the best paid actor in the history of television series. Johnson subsequently had to turn down roles in quite a few movies, such as the leads in both “The Untouchables (1987)” and “Die Hard (1988).”

Don Johnson also designed the Scarab Excel 43 ft, Don Johnson Signature Series (DJSS), and raced a similar one.
The Don Johnson Signature Series was powered by twin 650-hp Lamborghini V-12’s, which caused some problems to the design of the boat due to their size. Overall the boat cost $300,000 with each engine amounting to between $60–$70,000. His interest in boat racing eventually led Johnson to start his own offshore powerboat racing team, called Team USA. Joining him were Hollywood stars including Kurt Russell and Chuck Norris.
Johnson won the Offshore World Cup in 1988 and continued racing into the 1990s.

An iconic scene from the Miami Vice oeuvre involves Crockett and Tubbs driving through Miami at night to Phil Collins’ song “In the Air Tonight
Miami Vice is noted for its innovative use of stereo broadcast music, particularly countless pop and rock hits of the 1980s and the distinctive, synthesized instrumental music of Jan Hammer. While other television shows used made-for-TV music, Miami Vice would spend $10,000 or more per episode to buy the rights to original recordings

The choice of music and cinematography borrowed heavily from the emerging New Wave culture of the 1980s.
As such, segments of Miami Vice would sometimes use music-based stanzas, a technique later featured in Baywatch
