SPECTRE

Spectre is a 2015 spy film and the twenty-fourth in the James Bond series produced by Eon Productions for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Columbia Pictures. It is the fourth film to feature Daniel Craig as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond, and the second film in the series directed by Sam Mendes following Skyfall. It was written by John Logan, Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, and Jez Butterworth.

Jaguar C-X75

In “Spectre”  the car driven by the villain got as much attention as, if not more than, 007’s iconic Aston Martin DB10,. In the film, a villain henchman, called “Mr. Hinx,” drives an orange Jaguar C-X75, engages in a high-speed chase with Bond’s bespoke Aston through the streets of Rome.

Writing’s on the Wall – Sam Smith

I’ve been here before
But always hit the floor
I’ve spent a lifetime running
And I always get away
But with you I’m feeling something
That makes me want to stay

I’m prepared for this
I never shoot to miss
But I feel like a storm is coming
If I’m gonna make it through the day
Then there’s no more use in running
This is something I gotta face

If I risk it all
Could you break my fall?

How do I live? How do I breathe?
When you’re not here I’m suffocating
I want to feel love, run through my blood
Tell me is this where I give it all up?
For you I have to risk it all
Cause the writing’s on the wall

A million shards of glass
That haunt me from my past
As the stars begin to gather
And the light begins to fade
When all hope begins to shatter
Know that I won’t be afraid

If I risk it all
Could you break my fall?

How do I live? How do I breathe?
When you’re not here I’m suffocating
I want to feel love, run through my blood
Tell me is this where I give it all up?
For you I have to risk it all
Cause the writing’s on the wall

The writing’s on the wall

How do I live? How do I breathe?
When you’re not here I’m suffocating
I want to feel love, run through my blood
Tell me is this where I give it all up?
How do I live? How do I breathe?
When you’re not here I’m suffocating
I want to feel love, run through my blood
Tell me is this where I give it all up?
For you I have to risk it all
Cause the writing’s on the wall

Trivia

In order to complete the London scenes involving low-flying helicopters, the production had to send out 11,000 letters to residents and businesses that fell within the fly zone. Supervising locations manager Emma Pill said: “The biggest challenge, however, was to light the river at night. This involved several weeks of preparation. We lit under each arch of Vauxhall, Lambeth, and Westminster Bridge, seventeen arches in total. These lights then remained in position for five weeks. We also lit the river from ten rooftops along the bank of the Thames, from Vauxhall Bridge to Hungerford Bridge, working with Lambeth Palace, Tate Britain, and the Royal Parks to gain permission. We also worked very closely with the House of Commons, County Hall, and The London Eye to keep various lights on or off, or to change the color of their lights for each night shoot.” Each night shoot involved a location team of nearly 200 personnel that included Marshals, security, traffic management, and police officers. Pill laughed, adding: “That’s a lot of radios to hand out and coordinate on a night, but it ran extremely smooth each time.”

Trivia

In July 2015, rumours spread that Radiohead would record the theme for the upcoming James Bond film Spectre. The bookmaker William Hill suspended bets after a customer placed £15,000 at ten-to-one odds on Radiohead.

Radiohead submitted the song for the film, “Spectre”. However, the production team felt it was too “melancholy” for the title sequence, and instead used “Writing’s on the Wall” by Sam Smith. The Spectre production team liked the song, but rejected it when they discovered it was not original and therefore ineligible for the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

The Aston Martin DB10 is a Bespoke grand tourer specially developed for the James Bond film Spectre by the British luxury car manufacturer Aston Martin.

The car was unveiled by Sam Mendes and Barbara Broccoli, the director and producer of Spectre respectively, the 24th James Bond film produced by Eon Productions. The unveiling took place as part of the official press launch of the film on the 007 Stage at Pinewood Studios, near London, on 4 December 2014. Mendes introduced the car as “the first cast member.”

Shortly after the unveiling ceremony in Pinewood Studios, Aston Martin also took part in the launch of the Bond in Motion exhibition at the London Film Museum in Covent Garden, London. The car manufacturer celebrated their fifty-year partnership with Bond films franchise, which started with the DB5 being used in the 1964 film Goldfinger.

The design of the DB10 was led by Aston Martin’s chief creative officer Marek Reichman, with the film’s director Mendes working closely with the team. Original concept and sketch by Sam Holgate, a 30-year-old man from Foston whose design the DB10 was based upon. Only 10 units were hand-built in-house by the company’s design and engineering teams in Gaydon.Eight of those 10 cars were featured in the movie, and two more were built for promotional purposes

Trivia

Since this movie does not use an original Ian Fleming story title, there are still only four unused original titles remaining: “The Property of a Lady”, “The Hildebrand Rarity”, “Risico”, and “007 in New York” (“Agent 007 in New York”). The word “Hildebrand” does appear in the name of the closed “rarities” shop and safe house in this movie.

Quote

James Bond: [Q hands Bond a watch] What does it do?

Q: It tells the time. Might help with your punctuality issues.

James Bond: M’s idea?

Q: Precisely. Oh, one word of warning, the alarm is rather loud… if you know what I mean.

James Bond: I think I do.

Quote

Oberhauser: Why did you come?

James Bond: I came here to kill you.

Oberhauser: And I thought you came here to die.

James Bond: Well, it’s all a matter of perspective.

Trivia

In “Dr. No”, “M” required James Bond to turn in his 25-calibre Baretta and replaced it with a 7.65 mm Walther PPK.

Bond has continued to use the Walther PPK in subsequent films, including SPECTRE.

[Bond notices the shell of the DB5]

Q: Oh, yes. That old thing is taking quite a bit of time. Mind you, there wasn’t much left to work, only a steering wheel. I believe I said, “Bring it back in one piece,” not, “Bring back one piece.”

[Q laughs at his own joke]

OPENING SCENE

The movie opens with a wide shot of an elaborate Day of the Dead parade in Mexico City, then zooms in to introduce a villain before the camera veers over to Daniel Craig’s James Bond walking down the street with a woman and entering the Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico.

Normally, that’s where the first cut would be. But instead, Hoytema follows Bond through the hotel door, trailing him with a Steadicam across the lobby, into and up an elevator and into a hotel room. And it doesn’t stop there.

The camera then follows Bond as he climbs out a window and onto the roof, where he sets his rifle sight on his prey in a window across the street.

The opening scene (The Day of the Dead) was unique for a bond film as it looked as though it was shot in just 1 continuous take. How many shots did it actually take ?

A. It was actually done in 1 shot
B. 3 Shots
C. 4 Shots
D. 18 Shots

The opening scene, set during The Day of the Dead (El Día de los Muertos) parade, is quite unique for a James Bond movie, in that it marks the first time it appears to be shot in one take. Actually done in three shots, it begins from the moment the camera pans down to the massive crowd, following a masked Bond and his lady partner, following them back to their hotel room, and ending at the point Bond has his gun sight set on Marco Sciarra. The interior of this shot is the Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico. The exterior is another building, a few blocks away, which is across the street from the Palace of Mining (the large building in the background as Bond is walking on the roof). When Bond has his gun sight set on Marco Sciarra, he is on top of the building where the Mexican Senate met for eighty years.

The first shot was lensed with a Technocrane, which creating the establishing shot, then lowered the camera and zoomed in to follow the actors. A transition occurs when Bond and the woman enter the hotel, which is actually on a different street. … The hotel room is a set built at Pinewood Studios in the U.K
